Presidential Emergency Operations Center

The Presidential Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) is a bunker beneath the White House. A page on the Federation of American Scientists site described it as follows.

Immediately after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Vice President Dick Cheney and senior staff gathered in the Presidential Emergency Operations Center. White House staff collected and discussed information as the day unfolded, and they kept in contact with the President.
