25th September 2000: Visa application succeeds

  • Hanjour makes a non-immigrant visa application for a US visa using Saudi Arabia passport #C241922. This shows him as being born in Saudi Arabia on 30th August 1972. (Source)


2nd December 2000: Travel to the UAE

  • Hanjour travels from Saudi Arabia to Qatar to the United Arab Emirates. (Source)


5th December 2000: Opening a Dubai bank account

  • Hanjour opened an account at Citibank in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with a deposit of $3,000 (less $15). (Source)


8th December 2000: Arriving in San Diego

  • Hanjour rented mailbox #433 at Mail Boxes, Etc, Laurel, MD ($49). (Source) Another document gives the full address as 14625 Baltimore Ave, Laurel, Maryland. Hanjour provided an address of 10131 Baltimore Ave, Laurel, Maryland. Hanjour and Majed Moqed had checked into the Budget Host Valencia Motel, 10131 Washington Boulevard, in Laurel, Maryland, on 16th August.


20th August 2001: Congressional Air Charter

  • Nawaf al-Hazmi and Hani Hanjour used a computer located at the William Paterson State College, in New Jersey, to log on to travelocity.com. They shopped for flights originating on September 5, 2001, from Dulles International Airport. (Source)
  • Hanjour took a 15:00 flying lesson at Congressional Air Charter, Gaithersberg, MD, and paid in cash ($109.80). (Source) He "took and passed" the check ride. (Source)


22nd August 2001: Finances

  • Hanjour rented a plane from Congressional Air Charter, Gaithersberg, MD, between 15:00 and 16:50. (Source)

  • At 9:25 Hanjour's debit card was used to make First Union National Bank account inquiries, and cash withdrawals for $5000. The transactions were denied. (Source)
  • Majed Moqed's ATM card was also used at 9:25, to make two account inquiries and a cash withdrawal for $500. Hanjour was also present. (Source)


7th September 2001: Cash advance denied

  • 17:30: Hanjour attempted to obtain a cash advance of $4,900 at First Union National Bank, which was denied. He cashed a "general ledger" (??) for $20. (Source)


8th September 2001: Bank account closed

  • 10:30 - 11:30: Hanjour closed his First Union National Bank account. (Source)


9th September 2001: Shopping

  • Nawaf al-Hazmi's debit card was used at 15:40 to spend $158.14 in Giant Foods, Greenbelt, MD. (Source) Another document says Hani Hanjour and one other person were present, and they bought razors, shaving cream, three rolls of plastic tape and other items. (Source)


10th September 2001: Attempts to mail a package to the UAE

  • At 12:30 Nawaf al-Hazmi and Hani Hanjour mail a package from Mail Boxes, Etc, to the UAE, for a cost of $41.06. (Source) They used the name "Rawf Al Dog" to send an Express Mail package from Mail Boxes Etc, Laurel, Maryland, to P.O. Box 19738 in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. After September 11 2001 the FBI intercepted the package at Dulles Airport. Inside the package was a letter as well as the debit card and PIN for the First Union Bank account of Khalid al-Mihdhar. 11th September 2001: Boarding Flight 77

  • Hanjour checked in for AA Flight 77 at Dulles Intl Airport, passing through the west security checkpoint at 7:35. Flight 77 left the gate at 8:09, taking off at 8:20. (Source)

The five hijackers were filmed passing through the West Security Checkpoint at Dulles Airport. The complete footage was released at the Moussaoui trial.
